Although we do not agree with what constitutes a “coupe”, the 2018 Audi A5 Sportback was breaking the wedge on Wednesday at the Los Angeles Auto Show 2016, before the launch of the market in spring 2017. The fastback four doors (five if one counts down dramatically hatch) seems the same sleek lines as the awesome A7 sedan, but with the copier configured with a “70 percent reduction” after all lines are traced. This is not the first time we see the car that made its official bow at the 2016 Paris Motor Show, but this is the first time we see the car in the United States.
Exterior and Interior
Do not deny the fact that the new 2018 Audi A5 Sportback is much better than before. For starters, it does not seem like a late occurrence. The front has been beautifully carved, and features Audi’s new corporate grille, which is both wider and thinner than before. The headlights recede slightly, while the folds of the hood give it a more aggressive look than before. The roof of the car has also changed slightly, so now it looks a lot more like the A7. It also has a wider back, and with the help of its wider standard wheels, the new A5 looks a little more stylish than before.
As expected, the interior of the 2018 Audi A5 Sportback is very similar to the A4 or its coupe counterpart. The three cars share the same board that offers a very minimalist design. All controls are within the reach of the driver and, thanks to the excellent driving position of the car, it feels much better than most of its competitors. At the rear, there is also much more free space than before thanks to the new platform. Elements such as the Audi digital dashboard, its adaptive cruise control and the new MMI infotainment system can be purchased throughout the range.
The second generation of the 2018 Audi A5 Sportback makes its first trip across the pond in the A5 and S5 specifications, with two different engine options. The alignment should be already known to most Audi fans, with the basic option starting with a turbocharged 2.0-liter line that generates 252 horsepower and 273 pounds of rotation. According to Audi, the A5 engine should be good enough to start the race at 60 mph in under 6 seconds thanks to an extremely fast 7-speed direct-shift gearbox and the transmission of all standard wheels, called Audi Quattro. If that’s not enough coffee sugar, a sturdy 3.0-liter turbocharged V-6 available in S5 Sportback producing 354 hp and 369 lb-ft, but that power changes through an inverter to regulate the eight-speed torque automatic and all-wheel drive identical to the new S4. A sprint of 60 mph takes 4.5 seconds.
